About My Journey
My journey into remote work started long before I ever knew the term existed.
I began my career doing informal jobs, including working as a nanny, before landing my first formal role as an office cleaner. Over time, through consistency, curiosity, and willingness to learn, I grew within that company and eventually became a Business Development Manager. That job gave me a sense of growth, responsibility, and freedom — until the company began struggling and eventually shut down on 31st July 2017. I wasn’t fired; the business simply could no longer survive, and we all went home
After months of unsuccessfully applying for jobs, I took a referral role just to survive. While it paid the bills, the rigid structure, long hours, and lack of autonomy made me deeply unhappy. I knew I couldn’t spend my life in work that drained me. Looking for alternatives, I turned to Google, searching for ways to earn online. That search led me to YouTube, where I discovered people working remotely and living with flexibility and choice.
With very limited resources, no personal laptop, and no tech background, I invested $10 in an online course and committed to learning consistently for two hours a day. I studied before and after work, using office internet when I had to. When COVID hit in 2020 and I lost my job again due to company closure, I doubled down on learning from home using a borrowed laptop.
Within months, I completed my course, built my first portfolio, updated my LinkedIn profile, and landed my first remote client — earning in dollars for the first time in my life. That moment marked a turning point. What started as a survival decision became a sustainable remote career.
Five years later, I work remotely with global clients, earn more than I ever did in traditional employment, travel frequently, and have control over my time. My story is proof that remote work is possible for ordinary people starting from zero — with clarity, consistency, and courage to begin.
